Bihar News : Police have intensified action in connection with the violence that broke out during a protest at LRP Chowk in Bahadurganj on July 25. So far, 22 people have been arrested, while FIRs have been registered against more than 40 named accused and 100–150 unidentified persons. Raids are underway to apprehend those still absconding.
In a press statement issued on Monday, police said photographs of 102 suspected rioters and registration numbers of several vehicles allegedly involved in the incident have been made public to aid identification. Earlier, photos of 55 suspects had been released, with the latest batch covering serial numbers 56 to 102. Citizens have been urged to share information through the police helpline numbers 9031816144 and 9031816147.
Police Allege Protest Was Held Without Permission
According to police, the case has been registered as Bahadurganj Police Station Case No. 460/26 based on a written complaint filed by Circle Officer Ashish Kumar Singh. Authorities stated that permission for the protest had been denied in advance. Despite this, a gathering was reportedly held at Bahadurganj College under the banner of various student organizations.
Police said around 150 to 200 protesters marched with placards, banners, and sticks. The crowd allegedly turned violent near the Mirch Masala Restaurant and a TVS showroom, pelting stones at police and administrative officials. Announcements urging protesters to maintain peace reportedly had no effect.
Officials Injured, Public Property Damaged
The violence left Headquarters DSP Sushil Kumar, BDO Arun Kumar Sardar, and several police personnel injured. They were treated at the Bahadurganj Community Health Centre.
Authorities alleged that rioters damaged government vehicles belonging to the Deputy Development Commissioner (DDC) and the BDO, along with other public property. The mob also allegedly vandalized property at LRP Chowk, misbehaved with journalists and civilians, and broke barricades on NH-327E, blocking the highway for nearly five hours. The blockade reportedly left hundreds of vehicles, including ambulances, stranded.
Loss Estimated at ₹300,000
Police estimate that the violence caused approximately ₹300,000 (about 3 lakh rupees) in damage to public and private property. Eight mobile phones were seized from the 22 arrested individuals. Police said efforts are continuing to identify and arrest the remaining suspects involved in the incident.
