Bihar News : Former Legislative Council member Devesh Kumar assumed charge as the Vice Chairman of the Bihar State Planning Board on Friday. After taking charge, he stressed the need to strengthen the board’s role in ensuring inclusive, balanced and sustainable development across the state.
Devesh Kumar said well-planned, evidence-based and long-term planning would be essential to achieve the goal of Developed Bihar@2047.
Focus on Coordination with Government Departments
Devesh Kumar said the Bihar State Planning Board is an important institution responsible for shaping the direction of the state’s development and preparing long-term and inclusive development strategies for different sectors.
He said the board’s role would be further strengthened to ensure better and more effective utilisation of the resources available in the state and to achieve the targeted development goals.
He said Bihar is rapidly establishing new milestones in development. Therefore, it is necessary to formulate plans keeping future needs and challenges in mind.
The Planning Board will work in better coordination with various departments of the state government and provide necessary suggestions and guidance on development priorities, policies and schemes, he said.
Bihar State Planning Board Was Formed in 1972
The Bihar State Planning Board was established in 1972. It plays an important role in the formulation, study and research of the state’s annual and long-term plans, as well as in reviewing various development programmes.
The board also plays an important role in setting development targets according to the resources available in the state and linking them with the overall development process.
It studies the progress of schemes and development programmes implemented by various departments and provides suggestions and guidance on important development-related issues.
Strengthening effective and forward-looking planning in line with changing development needs and future challenges is also among the board’s key responsibilities.
Devesh Kumar Expresses Confidence in Board’s Role
Devesh Kumar expressed confidence that with the cooperation of concerned departments, experts and officials, the Planning Board would play an even more effective role in promoting the overall, balanced, inclusive and sustainable development of Bihar.
Additional Chief Secretary of the Planning and Development Department Dr N. Vijayalakshmi, Secretary Kanwal Tanuj, Additional Secretary of the Bihar State Planning Board Shyam Bihari Meena and other senior officials of the department and board were present on the occasion.
