- On Independence Day, Bihar Police received 18 police medals from the Union Home Ministry, including a Gallantry Medal for Inspector Mohammad Afsar Hussain and President’s Medals for two officers.
Bihar News : On the occasion of Independence Day, the Bihar Police has been awarded 18 police medals by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. Inspector Mohammad Afsar Hussain has received a Gallantry Medal, while IG Sanjay Kumar and SP Beena Kumari have been selected for the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service.
In addition, DIG Rakesh Kumar Sinha and SP Imtiyaz Ahmed, along with 13 other police officers and personnel, have been selected for the Medal for Meritorious Service. Last year, in 2025, Bihar Police received 15 medals.
Names of Officers and Personnel Selected for Meritorious Service Medal
Those selected for the Meritorious Service Medal include DIG Rakesh Kumar Sinha, SP Imtiyaz Ahmed, Inspector Mohammad Irshad Alam, ASI Mukesh Kumar Singh, ASI Lavkush Kumar and SI Rakesh Kumar Singh.
The list also includes Havildar Shambhu Nath Singh, SI Santosh Chhetri, Havildar Santosh Ale Magar, Havildar Rupesh Thapa, Constable Tapan Gurung, Constable Chhatrabahadur Thapa, Constable Santosh Kumar Thakur, ASI Amitabh Giri and ASI Anand Prakash.
Rakesh Kumar Sinha Started Service as DSP
DIG Rakesh Kumar Sinha began his police career as a DSP in 1999. His first posting was in Dumka, Jharkhand, in 2001.
He was later allotted the Bihar cadre and served in several districts, including Rohtas, Sheikhpura, Jehanabad and Nalanda. He also held responsibilities in the Special Task Force (STF), Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and Vigilance.
Became IPS Officer in 2012
Rakesh Kumar Sinha was inducted into the Indian Police Service in 2012. He is currently serving as DIG in the Vigilance Investigation Bureau.
He also served as a police observer during the Punjab and Gujarat elections. So far, he has received 32 commendation certificates. He has now been selected for the Meritorious Service Medal.
