Bihar News : The Bihar government is preparing to modernize its Dial-112 emergency police response service with advanced technology. Under the proposal, the Police Headquarters will be able to monitor Dial-112 vehicles and on-duty personnel in real time.
To achieve this, the department has proposed installing dashboard cameras (dash cams) in Dial-112 vehicles and equipping police personnel with body-worn cameras. The proposal has been submitted to Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar for approval.
Once implemented, the system will allow the headquarters to track the live location of Dial-112 vehicles and monitor police activities during emergency responses.
Dash Cameras to Record Vehicle Movement
The proposal also includes the procurement of new Dial-112 vehicles equipped with dash cameras and other modern features.
The objective is to make the police response system more transparent and efficient. Live video and location data from the vehicles will be transmitted to the police headquarters, enabling better supervision of emergency operations.
Target to Reduce Response Time Below 10 Minutes
The Police Headquarters aims to further reduce the Dial-112 response time so that emergency teams can reach incident locations in less than 10 minutes after receiving a call.
To achieve this, Dial-112 will be integrated with Emergency Call Boxes and the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) developed under the Smart City Mission, allowing faster coordination during emergencies.
Integration with NHAI, Railways and Ambulance Services
The state also plans to expand Dial-112 beyond policing by integrating it with other emergency services, including:
- National Highways Authority of India (NHAI)
- Indian Railways
- Transport Department
- Private ambulance services
- Trauma care services
This integration is expected to improve coordination among multiple agencies during road accidents and other emergencies.
Women’s Safety App Under Development
Since September 2024, Dial-112 has been offering a Safe Journey Service for women. According to officials, 224 women have already been assisted safely through this initiative.
The Police Headquarters is now planning to launch a dedicated women’s safety mobile application to help women seek assistance discreetly when they are unable to make a phone call.
One-Click Emergency Alerts
The proposed app will enable women to:
- Send a silent emergency alert to the police and family members.
- Request assistance with a single click.
- Share their live location automatically with the police control room.
This will help authorities quickly locate and assist women during emergencies.
Technology to Strengthen Emergency Response
ADG (Technical and Wireless Services) Amit Lodha said that continuous efforts are being made to strengthen the Dial-112 service. He confirmed that the proposal to install dash cameras in emergency response vehicles is under consideration and that work is also underway to introduce the women’s safety app.
According to officials, these technological upgrades are expected to significantly improve monitoring, emergency response efficiency, and women’s safety across Bihar.
