China Promises to Meet India’s Key Needs, Push to Ease LAC Tensions

India News : Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, currently on a two-day visit to India, has assured his counterpart External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar that China will meet three of India’s pressing requirements—fertilizers, rare earth minerals, and tunnel-boring machines.

India has been in long-standing discussions with China over the uninterrupted supply of rare earth minerals, which are critical for industries including electric vehicles, wind turbines, and defense manufacturing.

During their talks in New Delhi, Jaishankar emphasized that the two countries must be guided by three principles—mutual respect, mutual sensitivity, and mutual interests. He said, “Differences should not become disputes, and competition should not turn into conflict.”

Wang Yi is also scheduled to meet National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to discuss the sensitive boundary issue, particularly the ongoing standoff in eastern Ladakh along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) that has persisted for over four years following the deadly 2020 Galwan Valley clash.

The timing of Wang’s visit is notable, coming just days ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed visit to China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.

Sources confirmed that Wang assured Jaishankar of China’s commitment to ensuring supplies of fertilizers, rare earths, and tunneling equipment, even as India faces trade pressure due to hefty U.S. tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump.

Jaishankar underlined that both nations, after enduring a difficult phase in bilateral relations, now need a clear and constructive approach to move forward. He also stressed counter-terrorism cooperation as a key priority while reiterating issues raised during his recent visit to Beijing.

The visit is being viewed as part of broader efforts by both neighbors to reset ties strained since the Galwan clash, while maintaining dialogue to reduce border tensions.
