India News : In a major action, the Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested Javed Ahmed Siddiqui, Chairman of Al-Falah University, on charges of forgery and serious financial irregularities. The arrest has been made based on two FIRs registered on the complaint of the University Grants Commission (UGC).
Senior police officials said multiple complaints were received regarding large-scale violations, fake documentation, and irregular financial practices in the functioning of the university. Following these complaints, the Crime Branch intensified its investigation and arrested Siddiqui after gathering substantial evidence.
Probe linked to Delhi blast investigation
According to police sources, the investigation into the alleged fraud gained momentum after a blast incident near the Red Fort area. While probing that sensitive security-related case, agencies reportedly uncovered links pointing towards irregularities in the administration of Al-Falah University. This led to a deeper investigation into the university’s management and financial operations.
Enforcement Directorate already probing financial angle
The case is also being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which had earlier initiated a probe into possible money laundering and financial manipulation. Inputs shared by the ED reportedly played a key role in Siddiqui’s arrest.
After being taken into custody, Siddiqui was produced before a local court, which granted the police four days of remand. During this period, investigators will question him about the university’s funds, alleged fake documents, and other suspicious activities.
University earlier came under scanner
Al-Falah University had earlier come under the spotlight when a Kashmiri doctor was arrested in Faridabad with a huge cache of explosives and weapons. During the investigation, it emerged that the accused was associated with the university as a faculty member. That case further drew the attention of security agencies towards the university’s administration.
Police officials believe that more startling revelations may emerge during custodial interrogation. The investigation is ongoing.
