India News : A government school teacher in the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu has been arrested for allegedly sexually harassing 21 girl students. The accused, identified as Senthilkumar, a 50-year-old science teacher from the Hope Park area near Kotagiri, was taken into custody under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The incident came to light during a police awareness program conducted at the school, where several students courageously came forward to report the teacher’s inappropriate behavior.

The disturbing case unfolded when police officers visited the government school near Udhagamandalam to conduct a session on sex education and child safety. During the program, 21 female students, primarily from classes VIII to X, reported that Senthilkumar had been engaging in sexual misconduct over an extended period. The complaints detailed inappropriate touching and other forms of harassment, prompting immediate action from the authorities. The Nilgiris District Superintendent of Police, NS Nisha, was informed, and officials from the Child Welfare Department were brought in to investigate further.
Senthil Kumar, who has been employed as a science teacher for 23 years across various government schools in Tamil Nadu, was arrested at midnight on Thursday, July 3, 2025, and remanded to judicial custody. The police have launched a thorough investigation to determine the full extent of the allegations and whether other students may have been affected. The case has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising serious concerns about student safety in schools.
