India News : The first week of September has begun with heavy rainfall across large parts of India, disrupting normal life and forcing school closures in several states. Delhi-NCR, Uttarakhand, and parts of Uttar Pradesh witnessed continuous downpours from Monday morning till late night, leading to massive traffic jams and severe waterlogging. In Noida and Gurugram, commuters were stranded for hours.
Taking note of the IMD alert and worsening conditions, many districts have declared school holidays. In Jammu & Kashmir, where flooding and cloudbursts have already caused destruction, schools remain closed on September 2. Similarly, in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, all classes from Grade 1 to 12, including anganwadi centers, are shut. Himachal Pradesh and Punjab are facing similar challenges, with the Punjab government ordering school closures until September 3, 2025.
In Uttar Pradesh, a heavy rain alert has been issued until September 3. Schools have been closed on September 2 in several districts, including Meerut, Bareilly, Moradabad, Rae Bareli, and Aligarh. Other districts under orange alert include Pratapgarh, Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Bhadohi, Jaunpur, Hardoi, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Kanpur Dehat, Baghpat, Mathura, Hathras, Kasganj, Etah, Mainpuri, Etawah, Auraiya, Amroha, Sambhal, and Badaun.
In Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram, continuous rain since Monday caused severe jams and waterlogging. Gurugram administration has advised schools to shift to online classes and offices to implement work-from-home, after gridlocks of up to 5 km were reported last evening.
