India News : For Indian travellers, international trips are becoming easier than ever. With rising incomes and a growing appetite for global travel, more Indians are booking overseas holidays. The biggest worry, however, is usually the visa process—paperwork, long queues, and uncertain timelines. But things are changing.
As per a recent ranking, the Indian passport has strengthened, and Indians can now visit 55 countries where a visa is not required in advance. That doesn’t mean every country is completely visa-free—many destinations fall under different entry systems. To avoid confusion at the airport, you must understand these three key categories:
1) Visa-Free
You don’t need a visa at all for entry. You simply travel with your passport and complete immigration formalities on arrival (subject to conditions like passport validity, return ticket, etc.).
Examples mentioned: Bhutan, Nepal, Mauritius.
2) Visa on Arrival (VOA)
You don’t need a visa before travel, but you will be issued a visa after landing, usually at the airport immigration desk. You may need to pay a fee and show documents like hotel booking, return ticket, and sufficient funds.
Examples mentioned: Maldives, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Qatar, Jordan, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Tanzania, Ethiopia.
3) ETA / e-Travel Authorisation
Here, you need online pre-approval before travelling. It’s usually a simple online form and payment (if applicable), and you receive authorisation digitally. It’s faster than a traditional visa, but it must be done before departure.
Examples mentioned: Kenya, Seychelles.
Best Options for Quick, Low-Hassle Trips
If you want to plan a trip quickly with minimal paperwork, destinations like Thailand, Malaysia, Mauritius, Bhutan, and Nepal are often considered easier—but rules can change, so always verify current entry requirements before booking.
Important Note
Visa policies depend on diplomatic relations and can change anytime. Before you pack or confirm tickets, check the official immigration/embassy website of the destination and confirm:
-
Passport validity requirement
-
Entry type (Visa-free / VOA / ETA)
-
Stay duration allowed
-
Return/onward ticket and hotel booking rules
