Ranchi: A one-day in-house training workshop on Scientific Temperament was organised for teachers at Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali, under the aegis of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The workshop focused on developing scientific thinking, critical reasoning and a practical approach to learning among teachers and students.
The programme was organised with the objective of encouraging a scientific outlook in society and reducing the influence of superstition and pseudoscience. The workshop also highlighted the importance of adopting scientific thinking in everyday life for building a developed nation by 2047.
70 Teachers Participate in Five-Hour Session
The programme began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the guests. Vice Principal Anupama Srivastava, School Coordinator Sushmita Mishra, School Training Nodal Officer Indrajit Kumar, Resource Person Somen Dey, Secondary Section In-charge Shileshwar Jha ‘Sushil’, Primary Section In-charge Deepak Sinha and Mamta Das were present on the occasion.
A total of 70 trainee teachers from the school participated enthusiastically in the CBSE in-house training programme. The five-hour session featured an in-depth discussion on eight important modules led by resource person Somen Dey.
From Scientific Heritage to Critical Thinking
The session began with a discussion on India’s rich ancient scientific heritage. This was followed by an analysis of the dangers posed by deeply rooted superstition and pseudoscience in society.
Teachers were introduced to the principles of critical thinking so that they could evaluate information on the basis of evidence. The session also discussed the role of scientific temperament in India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Special emphasis was placed on incorporating scientific thinking into daily life and encouraging the development of a new generation of rational thinkers. The workshop also highlighted the importance of adopting experimental and practical teaching methods in classrooms.
Interactive Activities Made Training Engaging
The training programme was not limited to conventional lectures and was designed to make the learning experience interesting and engaging.
The use of audio and video presentations, experimental activities, quizzes and direct interaction helped create an interactive atmosphere throughout the session.
Teachers participated actively in the different activities and showed keen interest in understanding and applying the concepts discussed during the workshop.
“Scientific Outlook Is Needed in Every Subject”
Addressing the participants, Training Nodal Officer Indrajit Kumar said that a scientific perspective is essential in every subject.
He said scientific temperament is not restricted to laboratories or new inventions. It means approaching every subject and aspect of life in a scientific and logical manner.
He stressed the importance of developing rational reasoning among children from an early age, adding that encouraging children to ask questions is essential for bringing change in society.
“Teachers Have the Responsibility of Building Scientific Awareness”
Vice Principal Anupama Srivastava said teachers have an important responsibility in developing scientific awareness among the younger generation.
She said teachers are not merely carriers of knowledge but also play a role in shaping and changing the way society thinks. According to her, the real purpose of the five-hour training would be achieved only when its learning is taken into classrooms and incorporated into teaching practices.
She emphasised the need to remove fear, superstition and confusion from the minds of children while nurturing curiosity, the courage to ask questions and scientific awareness.
Participants Take a Pledge
At the conclusion of the workshop, all participants took a pledge to apply the learning from the training programme sincerely in their daily lives and teaching methods.
