Ranchi: A major accident was averted near AG Colony in the Doranda police station area of Ranchi on Friday morning when a large tree suddenly fell on a school bus carrying children. The front portion of the bus was partially damaged, but all the children and the driver escaped unhurt after the driver immediately stopped the vehicle.
Ranchi has been experiencing heavy rain for the past two days, while strong winds continued from Friday morning, affecting normal life across the city.
Driver Brakes as Tree Falls
According to a traffic police officer deployed near AG Mor in Doranda, the school bus was carrying children through the area amid heavy rain and strong winds.
A large roadside tree suddenly began falling onto the bus. The driver noticed the tree and immediately applied the brakes, bringing the bus to a halt. As a result, none of the children inside the vehicle sustained injuries.
Municipal Team Clears Road
The Doranda police and Ranchi Municipal Corporation were informed about the incident. Soon after receiving the information, a municipal team reached the spot with a JCB machine.
The team cut and removed the fallen tree from the road, clearing the passage. The school bus was then allowed to proceed. Traffic remained affected for some time but returned to normal after the obstruction was removed.
Children and Driver Safe
The Doranda police station in-charge said there were no reports of casualties in the incident. All the children travelling in the bus and the driver were safe.
The incident comes amid continuous rain and strong winds in Ranchi, which have disrupted normal life and created difficulties for schoolchildren travelling to school.
Schools Holding Exams Amid Bad Weather
Examinations are currently underway in most schools, meaning many students have continued travelling to school despite the poor weather conditions.
The rain has also left several children’s shoes and school uniforms wet and dirty. School managements have instructed bus drivers to exercise extra caution while operating vehicles during adverse weather conditions.
