Bihar News : An affidavit filed for the Bihar Legislative Council elections has revealed new details about Nishant Kumar, the son of former Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
For years, Nishant Kumar was widely believed to be an engineer. However, the election affidavit shows that he did not complete his engineering degree.
Studied at BIT Mesra Until 2001
According to the affidavit, Nishant completed his intermediate education from Patna Science College in 1998. He later enrolled in the Computer Science Bachelor of Engineering program at Birla Institute of Technology Mesra.
However, he completed only five semesters of the eight-semester course before discontinuing his studies in 2001. The disclosure has dispelled the long-standing perception that he was an engineering graduate.
Modest Cash, Crores in Investments
The affidavit also details Nishant Kumar’s assets. While he has only ₹17,409 in cash, he holds substantial investments and bank deposits.
He reportedly has:
- A fixed deposit of ₹72.22 lakh in an SBI branch on Boring Road.
- A Public Provident Fund (PPF) balance of ₹48.87 lakh in an SBI Secretariat branch.
- More than ₹11 lakh invested in mutual funds.
- National Savings Certificates (NSCs) worth ₹34.35 lakh in a post office account.
Owner of Two Cars
Nishant Kumar owns two cars:
- A 2016 Hyundai Grand i10.
- A 2026 Kia Seltos.
Notably, the affidavit states that he does not own any jewellery.
Real Estate Holdings
His immovable assets include agricultural land in his ancestral village. He also owns a flat in the Shiv Radhika Complex in Shekhpura, Patna, and land in the PC Housing Society area of Kankarbagh, Patna.
The affidavit has become a major topic of discussion in Bihar’s political circles, particularly because it clarifies that Nishant Kumar never completed his engineering degree despite the widespread belief that he was an engineer.
