Orthopaedic OTs in Bihar District Hospitals to Go High-Tech, Patients Won’t Need to Travel to Bigger Cities

Bihar News : Orthopaedic Operation Theatres (Ortho OTs) at district hospitals and selected sub-divisional hospitals across Bihar are set to be upgraded with modern equipment and facilities. The initiative aims to provide advanced treatment and surgical care for bone-related conditions at the district level, reducing the need for patients to travel to major cities.

Ortho OTs to Get Modern Equipment

All Ortho OTs will be equipped with modern medical devices in accordance with Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS).

The State Health Society has directed all districts to assess the existing infrastructure and identify equipment and resources that are currently lacking. Hospitals have been asked to submit their requirements at the earliest.

The assessment will also cover hospitals where orthopaedic surgeries are expected to begin in the near future.

Upgrade Under National Health Mission

Strengthening Orthopaedic Operation Theatres has been identified as a priority under the National Health Mission (NHM).

A comprehensive gap analysis is being conducted to determine deficiencies in equipment and other essential resources at these hospitals.

Based on the assessment and requirements submitted by hospitals, the necessary equipment will be provided through the Bihar Medical Services and Infrastructure Corporation Limited (BMSICL).

Better Treatment at District Level

Once the Ortho OTs are upgraded, patients suffering from road accident injuries, fractures, sports injuries, and other bone-related conditions will have access to improved treatment and surgical facilities at district hospitals.

The initiative is also expected to reduce referrals to hospitals in larger cities, allowing patients to receive timely surgical treatment closer to home.

The move is expected to significantly strengthen orthopaedic healthcare services across Bihar and improve access to advanced treatment, particularly for patients living outside major urban centres.
