India News : We often consider pollution only in terms of coughs, sore throat, or eye irritation. However, experts and recent studies reveal that the air we breathe is directly harming our hearts.
PM 2.5: Invisible but Deadly
PM 2.5 particles are so tiny that they cannot be seen by the naked eye. They reach deep into the lungs and enter the bloodstream, spreading throughout the body and causing severe health risks.
How Pollution Attacks the Heart
Once PM 2.5 enters the bloodstream, it triggers inflammation in the arteries. This narrows the blood vessels, forcing the heart to work harder to pump blood. Moreover, polluted air thickens the blood, increasing the chances of clots. If a clot blocks a coronary artery, it can lead to a sudden heart attack.
Year-Round Threat: Pay Attention to Air Quality
The danger isn’t limited to winter smog. Industrial emissions, vehicle exhaust, and construction dust keep the air toxic throughout the year. Long-term exposure can cause arterial plaque buildup, laying the foundation for serious heart diseases. Doctors advise that people with existing heart conditions and the elderly avoid going outside on days with poor Air Quality Index (AQI).
