Ramdev on Delhi Pollution: Air Purifiers for Rich, Yoga Is Enough

India News : Amid worsening air pollution levels in Delhi–NCR, yoga guru Baba Ramdev has sparked debate with his remarks on the use of air purifiers. Commenting on the rising demand for air purifiers due to severe pollution, Ramdev said that air purifiers are a luxury for the rich and not a necessity for everyone.

During an interview with a television channel, Ramdev was asked how people could continue exercising outdoors when pollution levels are dangerously high. Responding to the question, he said that some amount of dust is inevitable with development and admitted that Delhi often turns into a “gas chamber” during peak pollution periods.

Ramdev advised people to take simple precautions such as keeping curtains at home, cleaning them every 15–20 days, and wearing masks. He suggested that instead of relying on expensive equipment, people should stay indoors and practice yoga exercises like Anulom Vilom and Kapalbhati to protect their health.

Reiterating his stance on air purifiers, Ramdev said these devices cater mainly to the affluent, while common people can safeguard themselves through yoga, breathing exercises, and basic preventive measures.

Meanwhile, due to the deteriorating air quality in the national capital, authorities have once again implemented GRAP-3 (Graded Response Action Plan). Under the new restrictions, 50 percent of government and private employees have been advised to work from home, and schools have been directed to operate in hybrid mode wherever possible.

Health experts, however, have expressed concern. Cardiologist Dr. Alok recommended the use of N95 masks while stepping outdoors, installing indoor plants, and using air purifiers inside homes. He also advised that children and elderly people should avoid going out during periods of severe pollution.

According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi recorded its worst air quality of the year on Saturday, with a 24-hour average AQI of 431, surpassing the previous high recorded on November 11. The Air Quality Early Warning System has warned that pollution levels are likely to remain in the ‘severe’ category in the coming days.
