Bihar News : A stampede-like situation broke out at Singheswar Dham on the fourth Monday of Sawan, leaving five devotees injured. The chaos lasted for around 15 minutes, following which the injured were admitted to Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur Medical College in Madhepura.
One devotee suffered a severe head injury after hitting a grill and falling. The person remains in critical condition. Some police personnel were also injured while trying to bring the situation under control.
Several Devotees and Police Personnel Injured
The injured include Sintu Kumar from Supaul, Runa Devi of Jalsima in Saharsa, Sulena Devi from Gwalpara in Madhepura and an unidentified woman devotee.
According to eyewitnesses, four devotees suffered serious injuries and were admitted to the medical college. More than a dozen devotees sustained injuries, while around half a dozen police personnel were also reported injured.
Temple Gates Opened for Devotees at 1 AM
Eyewitnesses said government worship at Baba Singheswarnath Temple began at 12:30 am. The temple gates were opened for devotees at around 1 am.
Devotees were being allowed to enter in queues through a passage beside the main gate in the outer temple complex. As the crowd swelled, a stampede-like situation reportedly occurred at around 4 am after the main gate was opened.
One Devotee Suffers Severe Head Injury
During the chaos, one devotee reportedly fell after hitting a grill, suffering a severe head injury and a fracture. The person remains in critical condition.
The heavy rush of devotees on the Monday of Sawan led to the chaotic situation at the temple. Shiva temples witness a large number of devotees during the holy month, which can sometimes result in crowd-related incidents.
The incident comes shortly after a stampede at Ashokdham Temple in Lakhisarai, where eight people had died.
