Offbeat News – Actress Swastika Mukherjee has made a heartfelt appeal on social media, urging people in Delhi to adopt Indie dogs and extend generous support to animal welfare organisations.
In an Instagram post, the Bengali film star wrote, “If you are a resident of Delhi, may I convince you to adopt one or more Indie dogs? These animals are incredibly healthy, require minimal care, and give you more love and affection than you can imagine.”
She further appealed to everyone to back their nearest animal welfare NGOs wholeheartedly. “Please support your local animal welfare NGO with generosity. Legal appeals and court proceedings take time, but our humanity needs to wake up now. Every contribution, big or small, matters and can be a step towards positive change,” she said.
Swastika, who began her career with Hemantar Pakhi (2001) and rose to fame with Rituparno Ghosh’s Chokher Bali (2003), has delivered memorable performances in films like Mastan, Kranti, Krishnakanter Will, Bhooter Bhabishyat, Mishawr Rawhoshyo, Take One, and Jaatishwar. She has also made her mark in Hindi cinema with roles such as Angoori Devi in Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! (2015) and Mrs. Basu in Dil Bechara (2020).
On OTT platforms, she has impressed audiences with films like Guldasta, Tasher Ghawr, and Qala.
Her message comes amid rising uncertainty over the future of stray dogs in Delhi-NCR, following a Supreme Court order to remove all strays from the streets and relocate them to dog shelters. The decision has sparked a public debate, with some supporting the move while others protest against it.
