‘The Bengal Files’ Depicts the Brutality of Direct Action Day

Offbeat News : Renowned filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri is set to bring forth another politically charged film with The Bengal Files, which delves into West Bengal’s violent political past. The trailer of the film has been released, showcasing the dark chapter of Direct Action Day on August 16, 1946.

According to the makers, the film is based on true events. The trailer begins with a simple question to a child at the dining table but gradually unfolds into a chilling portrayal of Bengal in 1946 and the dilemmas of present-day Bengal. The visuals highlight blood-soaked streets, religious fanaticism, and violent confrontations. It also features glimpses of conversations between Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Mahatma Gandhi, as well as references to infiltration issues.

Speaking at the trailer launch event in Kolkata, director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri described the film as a “warning” and a “battle cry,” saying, “The Bengal Files is a reminder that we cannot let Bengal become another Kashmir. To give authenticity to the untold story of Hindu genocide, we chose to launch the trailer in Kolkata itself. If Kashmir hurt the nation, Bengal will disturb it further.”

Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty, who plays a key role in the film, said, “The Bengal Files has everything audiences never expected. For me, the purpose of cinema is to bring change and show what people need to see. This character has brought me closer to the people, and it will resonate with them as well.”

The Bengal Files is the third installment in Agnihotri’s Files Trilogy, following the controversial yet successful films The Kashmir Files and The Tashkent Files. The upcoming film features Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Anupam Kher, and Darshan Kumaar in pivotal roles.
