Bihar News : A tragic accident occurred on Tuesday morning in Sonadhani Govasi Tola under Bhagwanpur Hat police station area of Siwan district, where a 35-year-old woman died after being electrocuted, while a young man who tried to rescue her was seriously injured.
The deceased has been identified as Gayatri Devi (35), wife of Santosh Kumar, a resident of the village. The injured youth, Rajesh Kumar (22), son of Kamli Rai, is currently undergoing treatment at Bhagwanpur Community Health Centre.
According to reports, Gayatri Devi was at her home when an iron ladder inside the house suddenly became electrically charged. As soon as she came into contact with the ladder, she suffered a severe electric shock and was critically injured. Rajesh Kumar, who rushed to save her, also came into contact with the current and sustained serious injuries.
Family members and local residents immediately took both victims to Bhagwanpur Community Health Centre. After examination, doctors declared Gayatri Devi dead, while Rajesh Kumar remains under medical treatment.
Villagers and the victim’s family have accused the electricity department of negligence. They alleged that a 220-volt power line near the house had been hanging dangerously low for a long time, posing a constant risk of accidents.
According to local residents, repeated complaints had been made to the authorities, but no effective action was taken to address the problem. After the incident, villagers themselves reportedly used ropes to move the wire and make the area safe.
Gayatri Devi is survived by her three young children — 10-year-old daughter Ekta Kumari, six-year-old son Ankush Kumar, and a two-year-old son. Her untimely death has left the family devastated. Her husband works as a laborer in Delhi to support the family.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the entire village. Residents have demanded adequate compensation for the bereaved family and strict action against the officials responsible for the alleged negligence.
