Trump Defends Netanyahu, Slams Corruption Trial as Witch Hunt

Washington : Former U.S. President Donald Trump has once again voiced strong support for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, calling his ongoing corruption trial a “political witch hunt.” In a post on Truth Social, Trump expressed deep concern for Netanyahu, whom he referred to by his nickname “Bibi”, criticizing the legal proceedings against him as unjust and damaging.

Netanyahu has been facing charges of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust since 2019. While he continues to deny all allegations and labels them as politically driven, the Israeli judiciary has refused his recent appeal to delay court appearances. Trump, however, sees the entire process as an attack on a leader who has significantly contributed to Israeli security and global diplomacy.

Trump highlighted Netanyahu’s achievements, particularly his role as a wartime leader and his close collaboration with the United States in addressing nuclear threats from Iran. He noted that Netanyahu is currently involved in sensitive hostage negotiations with Hamas, and questioned how a leader managing such critical affairs could be subjected to court proceedings “over NOTHING.”

Drawing parallels to his own legal troubles, Trump compared the situation to what he called “out-of-control prosecutors” targeting political opponents. He warned that Netanyahu’s trial could jeopardize high-stakes international talks, especially at a time when Middle East diplomacy is at a crossroads.

The former president also questioned the legitimacy of prosecuting an ally like Netanyahu, especially considering the billions of dollars in U.S. aid to Israel. Trump declared that America should not support such legal action against a trusted partner, emphasizing that the prosecution sends the wrong message to global allies.

This marks Trump’s second defense of Netanyahu in just three days. In a previous statement, he expressed disbelief that the trial was still ongoing, labeling it “ridiculous.” Reflecting on their joint efforts against Iran, Trump praised Netanyahu’s effectiveness and leadership.

He concluded by urging Israeli authorities to cancel the trial, calling it a travesty of justice and stating that Israel deserves better than what is currently unfolding. Trump’s comments underscore his loyalty to Netanyahu and his broader stance against what he views as politically motivated prosecutions.
