PM Modi Jabs Opposition: Says “Some People Will See Bihar Elections Even in the Name ‘Kosi’”

India News: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 184 newly constructed multi-storey Type-7 flats for Members of Parliament on Baba Kharak Singh Marg. On this occasion, he also took a jab, saying, “Today, I have had the privilege of inaugurating a residential complex for my colleagues in Parliament. The four towers are named Krishna, Godavari, Kosi, and Hooghly — four great rivers of India. But some people will feel uneasy about the name ‘Kosi’. They will not see it as a river but through the lens of the Bihar elections.”

PM Modi’s remarks about the Kosi River clearly targeted the opposition. Mentioning the Bihar elections, he sarcastically hinted at their political mindset. Bihar is set to hold elections at the end of this year, and a special voter list revision campaign is currently underway in the state. The opposition has been protesting against this exercise, alleging that the Election Commission, under government influence, is deliberately removing names from the voter list. The government has denied these allegations, stating that the process is entirely under the Election Commission’s jurisdiction.

During the event, the Prime Minister interacted with the labourers who built the multi-storey flats. He also planted a Sindoor plant. Union Ministers Manohar Lal Khattar, Kiren Rijiju, and several other ministers and MPs were present at the inauguration. PM Modi assured that the new residences will ensure MPs face no issues and will be able to focus more on their work. The buildings can house more than 180 MPs at once.

He noted that due to a shortage of MP housing, government expenses had been high. Until 2014, no new MP residences were constructed despite the shortage. Since then, around 350 MP flats have been built. Modi urged that cleanliness should be the hallmark of this complex — not just within the MP residences but across the entire campus.
