India News : Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) marked the 79th Independence Day with grandeur and patriotic enthusiasm at its Headquarters in Sanctoria. The event was graced by Shri Satish Jha, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, ECL, who served as the Chief Guest.

The celebration witnessed participation from key dignitaries including Md. Anzar Alam, Director (Finance), Shri Niladri Roy, Director (Technical/Operations), Shri Gunjan Kumar Sinha, Director (HR), Shri Girish Gopinathan Nair, Director (Technical/P&P), Smt. Deepti Patel, Chief Vigilance Officer, and Smt. Kiran Jha, President of Shatakshi Mahila Mandal, along with other office bearers of the Mahila Mandal. Also present were trade union representatives, members of the Welfare Board, departmental heads, contractual workers, and employees from various departments — reflecting the unity and collective spirit of the ECL family.
The programme began with the ceremonial arrival of the Chief Guest, followed by the unfurling of the National Flag and rendition of the National Anthem. Satish Jha then inspected the ceremonial guard of honour.
In his address, Shri Jha paid tribute to the freedom fighters and highlighted ECL’s record-breaking achievements in the fiscal year 2024–25, including the highest-ever coal production of 52.035 million tonnes — a 9.41% increase over the previous year. He emphasized this milestone as a symbol of strategic planning, relentless effort, and collective performance.
Shri Jha further reaffirmed ECL’s commitment to sustainable growth, citing investments in clean technologies, automation, and digital governance. “ECL is ready to lead the transformation in the mining sector — towards a future that is safer, more efficient, and environmentally sustainable,” he stated.
The parade concluded with the dispersal of contingents and a symbolic release of colourful balloons, embodying the spirit of freedom and hope.
As part of the day’s events, two important inaugurations were held:

The Quality Control Laboratory of the Civil Engineering Department, inaugurated by Shri Satish Jha, CMD.

The Headquarters Office Canteen, inaugurated by Smt. Kiran Jha, President – Shatakshi Mahila Mandal, to improve employee amenities.
The event concluded with a High Tea, promoting camaraderie among employees, guests, and dignitaries. Major Shardendu Tiwari, Head of Security, formally welcomed all attendees.
The 79th Independence Day celebrations at ECL served as a powerful reminder of the organisation’s unwavering dedication to energy production, employee welfare, and national development.
