India News : Starting today, a 50% tariff on Indian products imposed by the US has come into effect. The Trump administration had earlier levied a 25% duty on Indian exports effective from August 7, and now an additional 25% has been enforced from August 27, raising the total tariff to 50%. The move is expected to impact exports worth nearly $48 billion.
The additional tariffs were imposed after India continued to purchase oil from Russia despite repeated warnings from US President Donald Trump. Key sectors likely to be hit include textiles, gems and jewelry, leather, and footwear.
