India Tops Global List of Selfie-Related Deaths, Report Finds

India News : The global craze for the perfect selfie is turning deadly, with India recording the highest number of selfie-related fatalities in the world, according to a new report.

Between March 2014 and May 2025, India witnessed 271 selfie-related incidents, resulting in 214 deaths and 57 injuries. The United States ranked second with 45 incidents and 37 deaths, followed by Russia with 19 incidents and 18 deaths. Pakistan stood fourth with 16 cases, while Australia was fifth with 15. Indonesia ranked sixth with 14 incidents, followed by Kenya, England, Spain, and Brazil, each recording around 13 cases.

The study revealed that 46% of selfie-related deaths were caused by falls—from rooftops, cliffs, or tall buildings. Experts warn that most of these tragedies occur due to the desire to capture risky, “viral” moments for social media.

One of the researchers noted, “Our study shows how social media obsession can prove fatal. No photo or viral post is worth more than a human life.”

The trend of attempting daring and dangerous selfies, they added, continues to grow worldwide.
