India News : A heartbreaking incident from Kanpur has left families and neighbors in shock. Just 77 days after their love marriage, a young couple — Sajid and Sofia — were found hanging from the same dupatta inside their home in the Naubasta area.
According to police, the couple had gone to the market on Tuesday afternoon and returned home appearing completely normal. Within half an hour, they ended their lives. When family members opened the room, they were stunned to see the duo hanging together.
Sajid, the fourth of six brothers in his family, had been in a long relationship with Sofia, the only daughter of her parents. Seeing their affection, both families agreed to their marriage. The two tied the knot on June 17 with full family participation. Relatives now say there were never any visible disputes between them.
Sofia’s father said in tears: “We only wanted our daughter’s happiness and supported her choice. We never saw any discord.” Sajid’s father too expressed disbelief, saying his son always appeared cheerful.
Locals speculated whether the couple might have purchased something from the market before the incident, possibly poison, though no evidence has been found yet.
Naubasta police reached the spot immediately. Though relatives were initially unwilling, the bodies were sent for post-mortem. DCP South DN Chaudhary said: “It appears to be a case of suicide. No suicide note has been recovered. The exact reason will be clear after the autopsy report.”
Neighbors described Sajid and Sofia as well-mannered and inseparable. The incident has left the locality in deep sorrow, raising painful questions about what pushed the couple to take such an extreme step despite family support.
