Jharkhand News : Along with the biting cold, dense fog has begun to affect daily life across several districts of Jharkhand. Morning hours are witnessing extremely low visibility, significantly impacting air, rail, and road transport. On Saturday, thick fog disrupted flight operations at Ranchi airport, causing inconvenience to passengers.
According to officials, a flight arriving from Delhi to Ranchi during the early morning hours was diverted to Bhubaneswar due to poor visibility. Two other flights managed to land only after the fog cleared, arriving nearly two hours behind schedule. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that fog conditions are likely to intensify further and persist over the next five days.
Visibility drops sharply across districts
The Meteorological Department reported that visibility in Ranchi dropped below 500 meters during the morning hours. Similar conditions prevailed in Jamshedpur, where visibility was recorded at around 500 meters, while Deoghar witnessed visibility of nearly 700 meters. Aviation operations remained cautious due to these conditions.
Cold conditions to continue
Weather experts stated that there would be no major change in cold wave conditions across the state. Cold winds continue to blow, and only minor fluctuations in temperature are expected. Fog may start forming soon after sunset in several parts of Jharkhand, further affecting early-morning travel.
Temperature update
Over the past 24 hours, minimum temperatures across the state showed little variation. Ranchi recorded a minimum temperature of 8.4 degrees Celsius, while Gumla remained the coldest district at 5.7 degrees Celsius. Ranchi’s maximum temperature stood at 22.6 degrees Celsius, which is 2–3 degrees below normal.
Kanke records chilling temperature
In Kanke, located near Ranchi, the minimum temperature dropped sharply to 3.6 degrees Celsius, making it one of the coldest pockets in the region. Wind speed there was recorded at 2.6 km per hour. Meanwhile, McCluskieganj registered a minimum temperature of 6.5 degrees Celsius. The IMD noted that minimum temperatures in ten districts of Jharkhand have fallen below 10 degrees Celsius.
Meteorologists predict that while cold conditions will remain steady for the next few days, temperatures may dip further after the 18th, intensifying both cold and fog conditions.
