Karachi Gul Plaza Fire: 26 Dead, 18 Identified; Dozens Still Missing

World News : A massive fire at Gul Plaza, a multi-storey shopping complex on MA Jinnah Road in Karachi, has left at least 26 people dead, while dozens remain missing, according to multiple reports. Firefighters brought the blaze under control after a prolonged operation, and cooling and debris removal work is continuing amid fears the damaged structure could collapse further.

18 Identified, DNA Testing for Others

Officials said the bodies recovered were severely burned, making identification difficult. DNA samples have been sent for cross-matching to confirm identities, and only a portion of the victims have been identified so far.

Building Unsafe, Demolition Considered

Authorities have warned that the remaining structure is unstable. The Sindh government and Karachi administration have indicated the building may need to be demolished for safety reasons, while rescue teams continue searching through hazardous sections of the complex.

Probe Ordered; Safety Lapses Under Scrutiny

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has announced an inquiry into the incident, including the cause of the fire and the emergency response. Reports highlighted concerns over fire safety compliance and evacuation routes inside the building.

About the Complex
