Vedanta Grants India’s Biggest ₹2,500 Cr ESOP Equity to Employees

India News : Vedanta Ltd has announced what it calls India’s largest broad-based employee equity grant in the manufacturing sector, delivering a cumulative ₹2,500 crore equity impact to employees through its Employee Stock Option Plan (ESOP) over the past five years. The company said shares were granted at Re 1 per share, among the lowest ESOP pricing levels in India.

Vedanta stated that in the latest vesting cycle, its share value rose by around 80%, and the ESOP 2022 vesting alone generated ₹300 crore+ in employee wealth.

1,200 First-Time ESOP Beneficiaries in 2025

In 2025, Vedanta extended ESOP benefits to 1,200 employees for the first time, including freshers and early-career professionals. Under ESOP 2025, the company granted stock options worth ₹500 crore+, expanding employee ownership deeper into its workforce.

Inclusive Model Covering 40% Workforce

The company described its ESOP model as one of India’s most inclusive, covering nearly 40% of its workforce across plants, functions and career levels. Vedanta also highlighted that early-career employees can receive equity benefits over a three-year vesting period, linked to performance and long-term value creation.

Vedanta said the ESOP framework is aligned with business performance and recognises contributions in areas such as automation, digitalisation, AI-led innovation, operational excellence and sustainability.
