Missed Your Train? File TDR Immediately to Claim Ticket Refund

India News : Many passengers fail to board their trains despite leaving home on time due to traffic jams, dense fog, delayed connecting trains or buses. In such situations, most people assume that the ticket amount is lost once the train departs. However, Indian Railways rules offer relief to passengers even after a train is missed.

According to railway norms, passengers can claim a full or partial refund if they follow the prescribed process within the stipulated time. The key requirement is filing a TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt). Without submitting a TDR, the chances of getting any refund are almost nil.

What to do if you miss your train?

If your train is missed for valid reasons, you should immediately initiate the refund process by filing a TDR. Through TDR, passengers inform the railways about the reason they could not undertake the journey.

How to file TDR online

  1. Log in to the official website of IRCTC

  2. Go to the “My Bookings” section

  3. Select the concerned ticket

  4. Click on “File TDR”

  5. Choose the PNR number and mention the reason for missing the train

  6. Submit the request and save the acknowledgment or screenshot

Important points to remember

  • TDR must be filed within the prescribed time limit

  • The reason should be genuine and clearly stated

  • Refund is processed after verification as per railway rules

Passengers are advised not to treat a missed train ticket as wasted. Filing a TDR on time can help recover the ticket amount and prevent financial loss.
