Jharkhand News : Gangster Vikram Sharma ultimately met the same fate that he had inflicted on many others. His journey from the world of sports to organized crime ended in violence, marking a grim conclusion to a life marked by murder, kidnapping, extortion, and illegal wealth accumulation. Vikram Sharma was facing seven criminal cases, including murder and abduction, and had amassed properties across several states using forged documents.
From judo-karate coach to crime figure
In 1992, Vikram Sharma worked as a judo-karate coach at the Cinema Deewar Ground in Sidgora, Jamshedpur, where he trained children and young men. During this period, he came into contact with a youth who later became one of the most notorious criminals of the city—Akhilesh Singh.
What began as an association on the sports field soon evolved into a partnership in the criminal underworld.
Entry into transport business
In the early 1990s, when Jamshedpur’s transport business was expanding rapidly, Vikram Sharma and Akhilesh Singh entered the sector together. Initially, the partnership appeared to be purely commercial. However, over time, it reportedly transformed into a nexus involving extortion, contract disputes, and territorial dominance.
Kabra kidnapping-murder case brought him into limelight
Vikram Sharma’s name surfaced prominently for the first time after the sensational Kabra kidnapping and murder case in 1998. The incident shook the city and brought intense scrutiny from law enforcement agencies. Police investigations revealed links between Vikram Sharma and Akhilesh Singh following the case.
First major case: transporter Ashok Sharma murder
The first major criminal case against Vikram Sharma was registered in connection with the murder of well-known transporter Ashok Sharma. On December 18, 1998, Ashok Sharma was shot dead in broad daylight in Bistupur, creating panic across Jamshedpur. The case was investigated by local police as well as the CID, and allegations pointed to the involvement of the Akhilesh Singh gang, with claims that the killing was carried out on Vikram’s instructions.
Displaying political proximity
Vikram Sharma often tried to project himself as politically influential. Through social media reels, photographs, and videos, he highlighted his presence alongside senior politicians and public representatives, attempting to signal strong political connections. According to sources, he frequently moved with six private security guards, and his public appearances were marked by heavy security.
Managing Akhilesh Singh’s assets from outside jail
While Akhilesh Singh was lodged in Dumka Jail, investigation agencies found that his illegal assets and financial empire were allegedly being managed by Vikram Sharma from outside. This came to light during a raid conducted on March 29, 2017, at Flat No. 503, Srishti Garden, Birsanagar. The property was later released following an order of the Supreme Court.
Family background linked to Tata Steel
Originally from Uttarakhand, Vikram Sharma’s father Govind Sharma was an employee of Tata Steel. The family lived in Tata Steel quarters in Sidgora before shifting to Dehradun after Govind Sharma’s retirement. During this time, Vikram and his younger brother Arvind Sharma remained involved in martial arts training.
A violent end mirroring his actions
The path Vikram Sharma chose—one marked by fear, violence, and crime—ultimately led to his own downfall. From a sports instructor shaping young minds to a gangster feared by many, his life ended exactly the way he had ended the lives of others—violently and without redemption.
