India News : Fresh developments unfolded on Saturday morning as personnel from Kolkata Police and central security forces arrived at the Kalighat residence of Abhishek Banerjee, adding to the political tension surrounding the ongoing alleged signature forgery investigation.
According to reports, officers from Shalboni Police Station, accompanied by Kolkata Police personnel and central forces, visited Banerjee’s residence early in the morning. The police team later left the premises after completing their visit.
Search for Close Aide
Sources indicated that the police were reportedly looking for Sumit Roy, a close associate and personal assistant of Abhishek Banerjee. The visit was said to be connected to an investigation being handled by Shalboni Police.
As news of the police presence spread, Mamata Banerjee also arrived at the residence. She stayed briefly before leaving the premises.
Search Conducted Inside the House
Initial reports suggested that police personnel entered the residence and carried out a search operation. Several officers, including women police personnel, were present during the exercise.
However, no official statement detailing the outcome of the search was immediately released.
Ongoing CID Investigation
Abhishek Banerjee is already facing scrutiny in the alleged West Bengal Assembly signature forgery case being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Department.
Earlier this week, CID officers questioned him for more than five hours at Bhawani Bhavan. Following that interrogation, the agency directed him to appear again on June 14 for further questioning.
Allegations of Information Leaks
Reacting to the CID summons, Banerjee had previously alleged that details of the investigation and his appearances before the agency were being leaked to the media. He indicated that he might seek legal recourse regarding the issue.
ED Raid on Madan Mitra’s Residence
Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate conducted a search operation at the Dakshineswar residence of Madan Mitra. Reports suggest that the action is linked to an ongoing recruitment scam investigation.
The latest developments have intensified political attention in West Bengal, where investigations involving senior Trinamool Congress leaders continue to make headlines.
