India News : In response to the rising number of dog bite incidents and growing public safety concerns, the Municipal Corporation Gurugram> (MCG) has introduced stricter regulations for pet dog owners. The civic body has made registration of all pet dogs mandatory, warning that keeping an unregistered dog will invite legal action.
Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya has issued the order with immediate effect, making compliance compulsory for all pet owners in the city.
Mandatory Registration for Pet Dogs
Pet owners must now:
- Register their dogs through the MCG’s online portal or Citizen Facilitation Centres (CFCs).
- Submit the owner’s identity proof, a recent photograph of the dog, and a valid rabies vaccination certificate.
- Renew and update the registration periodically as required by the civic body.
Failure to comply will be treated as a violation of municipal regulations.
Strict Rules for Taking Dogs Outdoors
The Municipal Corporation has also issued detailed public safety guidelines.
- Dogs cannot be allowed to roam freely on roads, parks, green belts, or marketplaces.
- Every pet dog must be kept on a leash while outside the house.
- Owners will be responsible for cleaning up their pets’ waste in public places.
- Rabies and other mandatory vaccinations must be kept up to date.
- If a pet attacks, injures, or threatens any person, the owner will be held legally responsible.
Special Restrictions on Aggressive Breeds
The civic body has imposed additional restrictions on breeds identified by the Government of India as aggressive or potentially dangerous.
These include:
- Pit Bull Terrier
- Rottweiler
- Dogo Argentino
- Cane Corso
- Akita
- Mastiff
Owners of these breeds must ensure that the dogs wear both a leash and a muzzle whenever they are taken to public places.
The Municipal Corporation said the new measures are aimed at improving public safety while promoting responsible pet ownership amid increasing dog bite cases in the city.
