India News : Howrah Reinforcing the message of environmental conservation and sustainable living, St. Thomas School, Dasnagar, celebrated Van Mahotsav on its campus on Wednesday with an enthusiastic tree plantation programme involving students, teachers, and school staff. The programme commenced at 8:00 a.m. under the leadership of the school’s Headmaster, Shri Tanmay Banerjee, whose initiative made the event a meaningful environmental awareness campaign.
The celebration began with an inaugural session highlighting the significance of Van Mahotsav and the vital role of trees in maintaining ecological balance, conserving biodiversity, and combating climate change. Teachers addressed students on the importance of protecting natural resources and encouraged them to adopt environmentally responsible practices in their daily lives.
A major highlight of the programme was the plantation of saplings at different locations across the school campus. Students actively participated in planting and watering the saplings while learning about their importance in improving air quality, supporting biodiversity, and creating a healthier environment. Teachers and members of the school administration also joined the plantation drive, demonstrating their collective commitment to environmental stewardship.
Addressing the gathering, Headmaster Shri Tanmay Banerjee emphasized that environmental protection begins with individual responsibility. He encouraged students to nurture the planted saplings and become ambassadors of conservation within their families and communities. He also noted that educational institutions have an important role in shaping environmentally conscious citizens through practical initiatives such as tree plantation drives.
The programme concluded with a pledge by students to protect the environment and care for the newly planted saplings. Participants expressed their commitment to supporting future green initiatives aimed at making the school campus cleaner, greener, and more sustainable.
