JSSC CGL Dispute: Jharkhand High Court Protects Jobs of 1,932 Candidates

Jharkhand HC Rules: In Rural Areas, Panchayat Powers Override JRDA

Jharkhand News : In a major development in the ongoing controversy over recruitment examinations in Jharkhand, the Jharkhand High Court has provided relief to candidates selected through the JSSC CGL examination. The court has stayed the state government’s decision to cancel the JSSC CGL examination.

Following the High Court’s order, the immediate uncertainty surrounding the appointments and jobs of 1,932 selected candidates has been temporarily removed. However, the matter has not reached a final conclusion, and the dispute will be examined further in subsequent hearings.

Cancellation Had Raised Questions Over Appointments

The state government’s decision to cancel the JSSC CGL examination had created uncertainty among candidates who had secured appointments in various government departments after clearing the competitive examination.

Several selected candidates have already received appointment letters and are currently working in different government departments. If the examination had been cancelled, the validity of the selection process and appointments made on its basis could also have been affected.

A total of 1,932 candidates were selected after the JSSC CGL results were declared. The government’s decision had raised serious concerns among them about their appointments and future.

Selected Candidates Challenged the Cancellation Decision

The Jharkhand government had decided to cancel the JSSC CGL examination and several other recruitment examinations based on alleged irregularities and facts that emerged during the investigation. The candidates selected through the CGL examination then approached the High Court against the decision.

The petitioners argued that if any irregularity had taken place at any stage of the examination, the authorities should identify those responsible through an investigation. They maintained that legal action could be taken against anyone found guilty.

The candidates argued that cancelling the entire examination and selection process would affect the future of candidates who had cleared the examination through their hard work. They also submitted that they had no role in the selection process and could not be held responsible for alleged irregularities.

Government Had Cancelled 22 Recruitment Examinations

The state government’s position is that a thorough investigation is necessary after questions were raised over the fairness and transparency of recruitment examinations.

The selected candidates, however, have maintained that if there were irregularities, the actual individuals responsible should be identified through an investigation. According to the candidates, they appeared for the examination under the rules prescribed by the commission and had no control over the examination process.

The Jharkhand government had decided on August 18 to cancel a total of 22 recruitment examinations, including the JSSC CGL examination. The process for six other examinations was suspended, while 17 examinations were placed under investigation.

Next Hearing Scheduled for September 15

Following the latest High Court order, the 1,932 candidates selected through JSSC CGL have received interim relief. However, the court’s order is not the final decision in the matter.

The next hearing in the case is scheduled for September 15, when the court is expected to consider the broader issues related to the examination cancellation.
