India-China Border Talks: India and China are set to hold another important round of talks over their long-running border dispute on Tuesday. The 25th round of Special Representatives’ dialogue will take place in Beijing, where India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will co-chair the meeting.
According to China’s Global Times, the talks are expected to focus on the long-standing border dispute between the two countries. The two sides may also discuss India-China relations as well as important international and regional issues.
Key India-China border issues on agenda
India-China relations remained under considerable strain between 2020 and 2024. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has also said that the situation along the border was the main reason behind the difficult phase in bilateral relations.
However, the two countries have continued to maintain dialogue in recent months. According to China’s Foreign Ministry, the Special Representatives’ mechanism is the main channel for discussions on the boundary question and also serves as an important platform for dialogue between the two sides.
What happened in the previous round of talks?
The previous, or 24th round, of Special Representatives’ talks was held in New Delhi in August 2025. During that meeting, both sides discussed border-related issues in detail and reached an understanding on several points.
The 25th round of talks is taking place at a time when both India and China are trying to maintain peace and stability along the border. China has said that the overall situation along the border is currently stable and that both sides remain in contact through diplomatic and military channels.
Arunachal Pradesh dispute remains a key issue
Several differences between India and China remain unresolved, including the issue of Arunachal Pradesh. China claims Arunachal Pradesh as part of its territory and refers to it as “Zangnan”.
India has consistently rejected China’s claim. Jaishankar has also made it clear that peace and stability along the border are essential for improving India-China relations.
Focus on Doval-Wang Yi meeting
The meeting between Ajit Doval and Wang Yi is being closely watched as both sides continue efforts to address the border issue through regular dialogue.
Chinese experts have said that continued engagement between the two countries indicates that India-China relations are gradually moving towards greater stability and improvement.
