Bihar News : Darbhanga’s historic Nehru Stadium is set to be developed into a national-level sports complex and Centre of Excellence. Bihar BJP president and Darbhanga MLA Sanjay Saraogi said the proposed project, spread across 10 acres and estimated to cost around Rs 200 crore, will provide modern sports facilities and strengthen sports infrastructure in the region.
Saraogi said the NDA government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, is working to give a new direction and momentum to Bihar’s development. He described the proposed transformation of Nehru Stadium as a major step for Darbhanga.
Review of the Proposed Sports Complex
Sanjay Saraogi reviewed the proposed redevelopment of Nehru Stadium and the Centre of Excellence during a meeting with Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary at Sankalp Sabhagar in Lok Sevak Awas.
The proposed cricket stadium and sports complex were also reviewed through a detailed presentation.
Modern Facilities for Players
Saraogi said sporting talent in the Mithila region had long faced difficulties due to the lack of better infrastructure and facilities. He said the proposed initiative aims to address this gap.
According to him, players from Darbhanga will no longer need to move to major cities in search of better sports facilities, as modern training and other resources are planned in their own city.
Cricket Stadium and Indoor Sports Facilities
The proposed complex will include a modern national-level cricket stadium. Facilities planned for the stadium include high-mast lights for day-night matches, a hybrid turf pitch and a fully equipped pavilion.
The indoor multipurpose hall will have a swimming pool, boxing ring, judo and wrestling area, four badminton courts, basketball, squash and gym facilities.
Hostel, Sports Science and Medical Support
Saraogi said sports science, biomechanics and medical facilities will also be developed to help improve athletes’ performance. A 100-bed hostel, guest house and dining hall are planned for players coming from outside.
The project also proposes facilities for lawn tennis, volleyball and net practice pitches. A solar energy-based system and multi-level parking are also part of the plan.
Opportunity for Young Sporting Talent
The BJP state president said the NDA government is not only building roads, bridges and buildings but is also working to shape the future of Bihar’s younger generation. He linked investment in sports infrastructure with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India and Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary’s goal of a developed Bihar.
Saraogi said the proposed Centre of Excellence would provide a major opportunity for thousands of young people in Darbhanga. He added that the facility is expected to help establish Darbhanga as one of Bihar’s major sports hubs and provide local talent with a platform to progress further.
