Bihar News : Bihar Rural Development and Information & Public Relations Minister Shravan Kumar gave Raksha Bandhan an environmental message by tying a rakhi to a mahogany sapling at Kargil Park in Biharsharif.
Kumar tied a protective thread around the plant and pledged to nurture it until it grows into a mature tree. He said the festival’s message of protection should extend beyond human relationships to nature and the environment.
“Just as sisters wish for the safety of their brothers, society should also take responsibility for protecting trees and plants,” the minister said, emphasizing that the environment is essential for life.
He appealed to people to plant trees on special occasions such as birthdays and care for them like family members. Kumar also stressed the need for collective efforts to make Bihar free from plastic and substance abuse while increasing its green cover.
Referring to climate change, he said protecting trees is vital for securing a better future for children. Kumar claimed that Bihar’s green cover had increased from around 7 per cent when Nitish Kumar became Chief Minister to nearly 19 per cent now.
He said public participation would be essential to raise the state’s green cover closer to the national target of 33 per cent.
Forest department officials, social workers and several political representatives attended the programme.
