Bihar News : Appointment letters will now be mandatory for workers employed in factories, establishments and shops across Bihar. Employers will also have to arrange free health checkups for workers every year at their own expense.
The provisions have been introduced under the Bihar Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Rules, 2026. The new rules include provisions related to working hours, rest periods, workplace safety and essential facilities for workers.
Rules Applicable to Establishments With at Least 10 Workers
Under the guidelines of the new labour code in the state, the appointment letter provision will apply to factories, establishments and shops employing at least 10 workers.
However, workers employed in the domestic and agricultural sectors will not come under these provisions.
Annual Free Health Checkups for Workers
Under the new rules, employers will be required to arrange annual health checkups for workers at their own expense. The provisions also emphasise workplace safety and health standards.
Teams from the Labour Resources and Migrant Workers Welfare Department will inspect factories, establishments and shops to check compliance with the rules.
Special Focus on Safety of Women Workers
The new provisions allow women employees to work in all types of establishments with their consent. Necessary safety measures have also been made mandatory for women workers engaged in night shifts.
According to a senior department official, a database of factories, establishments and shops will also be prepared based on the applicable provisions.
