Bihar News : Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat after the Centre approved the establishment of a new National School of Drama (NSD) campus in Bihar. He said the decision would give Bihar’s rich theatre and performing arts traditions greater recognition and create new opportunities at the national level.
Bihar’s Theatre Tradition to Get a New Platform
The Chief Minister said Bihar has a rich cultural heritage and is the land of eminent personalities such as Kalidasa, Ramvriksha Benipuri and Bhikhari Thakur. The state also has its own distinctive and prestigious tradition of folk theatre and performing arts.
According to Choudhary, the establishment of the NSD campus will provide young artists with better institutional opportunities for professional theatre training, stagecraft, performing arts and advanced research. It will also reduce the need for talented artists to travel outside the state for training.
He said the campus would help create better coordination between Bihar’s traditional folk theatre practices and modern theatre.
State Government to Provide Necessary Support
The Chief Minister said the Bihar government has established the Bihar Sangeet Natak Akademi for the preservation, promotion and coordination of theatre arts. The NSD campus will further strengthen the state’s efforts in this direction.
He said the state government is taking necessary steps to provide suitable land for the NSD campus and bear 50 per cent of the approved construction cost as the state’s share. The government will extend all possible administrative support for the early establishment of the institution.
Investment in Culture and Young Talent
Samrat Choudhary said the establishment of the NSD campus in Bihar is not merely about setting up an institution. It represents an investment in the state’s cultural heritage, young talent and the future of modern theatre.
He expressed confidence that coordinated efforts by the Centre and the state government would help establish the institution and strengthen Bihar’s position on the national theatre map.
