Bihar News : More than 22 lakh people have been affected by floods in Bihar, prompting the state administration to expand relief and rescue operations across the affected areas. The Disaster Management Department has intensified its response as rising river levels continue to pose challenges in several parts of the state.
According to the department, around 22.42 lakh people have been affected across 368 gram panchayats in 70 blocks of 12 districts — Patna, Bhojpur, Saran, Vaishali, Bhagalpur, Begusarai, Buxar, Samastipur, Munger, Katihar, Lakhisarai and Arwal.
190 Community Kitchens Serving Flood-Affected People
The state government is currently operating 190 community kitchens in flood-affected areas. Through these kitchens, food is being provided to around 2.51 lakh people.
The number of community kitchens has been increased from 80 operational kitchens on September 5 to 190 on Sunday. The government has said its objective is to ensure that affected people receive timely assistance and that no flood victim remains without food.
Three relief camps are also being operated for flood-affected families. A total of 1,631 flood refugees are being provided accommodation, food and other basic facilities at these camps.
Polythene Sheets and Dry Ration Distributed
The Disaster Management Department has distributed around 65,700 polythene sheets and 12,712 dry ration packets among affected families.
The number of dry ration packets distributed has increased from 11,700 to 12,712 as relief operations continue to expand.
1,429 Boats and 171 Medical Camps in Operation
For the safe movement of people in flood-hit areas, 1,429 boats are currently being operated.
The number of medical camps providing primary healthcare has also been increased from 118 to 171.
Relief and rescue operations have been strengthened with the deployment of 10 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams and 27 State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams across different districts.
Several Rivers Flowing Above Danger Mark
According to the Central Water Commission, the Gandak, Kosi, Burhi Gandak, Ganga, Punpun, Bagmati and Ghaghara rivers are flowing above the danger mark at various locations.
The discharge trend at the Gandak barrage in Valmikinagar and the Son barrage in Indrapuri is currently reported to be stable.
Meanwhile, the Bihar Meteorological Service Centre has forecast light to moderate rainfall at many places in the state over the next two days, with the possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated locations.
