Saran: The breach in the right embankment of the Mahi River at the 11.90-kilometre point in flood-affected Saran district has been repaired within just two days. The district administration and the engineering team of the Water Resources Department successfully closed the breach and brought the river’s flow under control.
According to District Public Relations Officer Dr Neena Jha, the embankment was damaged and breached on September 6 due to backwatering caused by the high water level of the Ganga River.
Repair Work Began on a War Footing
Soon after receiving information about the breach, a technical team reached the site and began flood-control work on a war footing.
The team worked under the leadership of the Chief Engineer of the Water Resources Department, the Chairman of Flood Fighting Works and the Executive Engineer of the Flood Control and Drainage Division, Chhapra.
The engineering team worked continuously day and night, mobilising the required technical resources to repair the damaged embankment.
Repair Completed by September 8 Night
The repair work was completed by the night of September 8, and the river’s flow was brought under control. The swift action helped contain a potentially serious situation.
The entire operation was carried out under the guidance and continuous monitoring of District Magistrate Vaibhav Srivastava.
The district administration kept a close watch on the situation and maintained constant coordination with the engineering department, enabling the repair work to be completed in a short period.
Deputy Chief Minister Inspects Embankment Site
Deputy Chief Minister and Saran district in-charge minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav inspected the Mahi River embankment site and reviewed the repair work.
He sought details from officials about the present situation and appreciated the prompt and effective efforts of the district administration and the Water Resources Department.
The Deputy Chief Minister directed officials to maintain full preparedness and vigilance until the flood period comes to an end.
