Nawada: The Economic Offences Unit (EOU), Patna, arrested Kanhaiya Lal, a head clerk at the Nawada District Transport Office (DTO), during an operation at the office premises on Tuesday.
Kanhaiya Lal has been accused of allegedly conspiring to fraudulently transfer the registration of a stolen Scorpio to another person. The EOU action created a stir at the DTO office throughout the day.
Case Linked to Gopalganj DTO Office
According to information, the case dates back to 2021 and is connected to the Gopalganj District Transport Office. At the time, Kanhaiya Lal was working as a clerk at the Gopalganj DTO office.
He is accused of allegedly facilitating the fraudulent transfer of the registration of a stolen Scorpio belonging to Radheshyam Singh, the driver of the Vice-Chancellor of Veer Kunwar Singh University in Ara, in the name of another person.
Following an order of the Patna High Court, the Economic Offences Unit, Patna, registered Case No. 42/25 on November 20, 2025. Kanhaiya Lal was made an accused in the case during the investigation.
After the EOU investigation allegedly revealed his role, a team reached the Nawada DTO office on Tuesday and arrested him.
EOU Investigating Records and Roles
The then Superintendent of Prohibition in Gopalganj, members of the auction committee and the bidder have also been named as accused in the FIR, according to the information available.
The EOU team is examining documents related to the case and investigating the alleged roles of the officials and employees concerned.
According to sources, alleged manipulation of records related to the stolen vehicle’s registration and the process through which the vehicle was transferred to another person’s name are key points of the investigation.
Further questioning of other people and additional action in the case are also possible, according to sources.
Kanhaiya Lal Taken Into EOU Custody
Kanhaiya Lal is reportedly the son of Ramakant Prasad and a native of Siparadih under Beur police station area of Patna district.
After his arrest, the EOU team took him along and initiated further legal proceedings in the case.
