Asian Games 2026: India continued its medal-winning run on the seventh day of the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya. Distance runner Sawan Barwal won silver in the men’s marathon, ending India’s 44-year wait for a medal in the event. India also added another silver in women’s 50m rifle 3 positions team event.
With these results, India’s medal tally has reached 23 medals, including 2 gold, 9 silver and 12 bronze medals.
Women Shooters Win Silver
India secured silver in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions team event. The Indian team comprising Ashi Chouksey, Tilottama Sen and Vidarsa Vinod finished second.
The three Indian shooters were also in contention in the individual event. Tilottama Sen and Vidarsa Vinod advanced to the individual final, while Ashi Chouksey could not qualify.
Sawan Barwal Ends 44-Year Wait
Distance runner Sawan Barwal created history by winning silver in the men’s marathon. He completed the race in 2:11:37, setting a new national record and personal best. His silver ended India’s 44-year wait for an Asian Games marathon medal, with the previous medal coming in 1982.
Barwal finished behind Japan’s Ichitaka Yamashita in the marathon final. Fellow Indian runner Kartik Karkera finished 17th.
Lakshya Sen Loses to Loh Kean Yew
India suffered disappointment in badminton as Lakshya Sen lost to Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew in the men’s singles second round.
The match went to three games, with Loh Kean Yew eventually winning 21-12, 15-21, 21-14. The defeat ended Lakshya Sen’s campaign in the men’s singles event.
Tejaswin Shankar Remains in Medal Contention
In the men’s decathlon, India’s experienced athlete Tejaswin Shankar remained in medal contention. After the 100m heat and long jump, Shankar had 865 points and was placed fifth.
India’s Thowfeeq Noushad was also competing in the decathlon. He had collected 856 points and was in seventh position. The two Indians were scheduled to compete in the remaining decathlon events.
