New Delhi: Bank customers may face difficulties during the last week of September as public sector bank employees have called a three-day nationwide strike from September 28 to 30. Banks have advised customers to complete important banking transactions before the strike to avoid inconvenience.
The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has called the nationwide strike from September 28. Before the strike, banks will remain closed on September 26 as it is the fourth Saturday of the month. However, branches will remain open on Sunday, September 27, despite it being a Sunday holiday.
As a result, banking operations are expected to be affected continuously from September 28 to September 30.
SBI Advises Customers to Complete Banking Work
Some public sector banks, including the State Bank of India (SBI), have advised customers to complete essential banking work before the proposed strike.
SBI has sent messages to customers informing them that its branches will remain open on September 27. The message advised customers to visit any SBI branch for their banking requirements.
The advisory is aimed at helping customers complete transactions that may require branch visits before banking services are affected by the strike.
Why Are Bank Employees Going on Strike?
Bank unions have called the strike over several demands, including the implementation of a five-day banking workweek.
During the three-day strike, several branch-level services may be affected. These could include cash deposits and withdrawals, cheque clearance and other banking services.
Customers who need to visit bank branches for essential work may therefore face inconvenience during the strike period.
