Adani Power Wins Contract for 2400 MW Thermal Power Plant in Bihar's Pirpainti

India News : Adani Power Limited has secured a major contract to build a 2400 MW greenfield thermal power plant in Pirpainti, Bhagalpur, Bihar. This plant will provide uninterrupted electricity to the state for the next 25 years. The contract was awarded by Bihar State Power Generation Company on behalf of North and South Bihar Distribution Companies. A power supply agreement is expected soon.

In a tariff-based bidding process, Adani Power offered the lowest rate of ₹6.075 per unit. The company will invest approximately ₹27,000 crores in the project, which is expected to generate 10,000 to 12,000 jobs during the construction phase, and 3,000 permanent jobs once operational.

S.B. Khyalia, CEO of Adani Power, stated, “The Pirpainti project will provide Bihar with affordable, uninterrupted electricity, boosting the state’s economy and accelerating industrialization.”

With India’s peak demand projected to rise from around 250 GW today to 400 GW by 2032 and over 700 GW by 2047, the government has set a target to add ~100 GW of new thermal capacity by 2035 to meet future energy needs.
