India News : At least 30 pilgrims were injured after a bus carrying Amarnath Yatra devotees overturned and fell into a roadside gorge on the Sonamarg Highway in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday morning. All the injured were rescued promptly and shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. No fatalities have been reported.
According to police, the bus was carrying pilgrims to the Baltal Base Camp when the accident occurred near the S-curve at Hariganiwan in the Ganderbal district. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and roll approximately 20–25 metres down a slope before coming to rest on the roof of a house.
The bus, bearing registration number AR-11D-5655, was carrying around 50 passengers at the time of the accident. About 30 pilgrims sustained minor injuries and were admitted to Kangan Hospital for medical examination and treatment.
Immediately after the incident, a joint rescue operation was launched under the supervision of SHO Rais Ahmad. Personnel from the Ganderbal Police, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), CRPF’s 118 Battalion, 2 Assam Rifles, 21 Rashtriya Rifles, Yatra Police, and local residents worked together to evacuate the passengers safely.
Police said the swift response by the security forces and local volunteers helped prevent a major tragedy. An investigation has been initiated to determine the exact cause of the accident.
