Bihar News : The Bihar Cabinet has approved the construction of a 336-kilometre six-lane greenfield road between Buxar and Bhagalpur, marking a major step towards improving road connectivity in the state. The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Wednesday, where approval was given to a total of 13 agenda items.
Cabinet Secretariat Department Secretary Md. Sohail shared details of the Cabinet decisions during a press conference at Suchna Bhawan. The proposed road project will be developed by the state government under the PPP mode, while the Bihar State Road Development Corporation Limited (BSRDCL) will be responsible for its implementation.
Six-Lane Corridor to Connect 12 Districts
The proposed 336-kilometre corridor will begin in Buxar and pass through Bhojpur, Arwal, Jehanabad, Nalanda, Munger, Sheikhpura, Banka, Gaya, Nawada, Jamui and Lakhisarai before reaching Bhagalpur.
According to the government, the greenfield corridor is expected to provide direct and improved road connectivity between these districts. The project is also expected to strengthen infrastructure and boost agricultural activities in the region.
DPR and Development of Land Parcels
The Cabinet has also approved the proposal to hire consultancy and transaction advisory services for preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the project.
In addition, BSRDCL has been authorised in principle to facilitate the economic use and development of large land parcels along the proposed corridor. The government plans to promote economic activities and infrastructure development in areas surrounding the road project.
Agreement with Japanese Company for AI Platform
The Cabinet was informed that the Information and Technology Department has signed an agreement with Japanese company Tayo to develop an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-related infrastructure platform in the state.
The government expects AI to assist in identifying, prioritising, monitoring and implementing projects related to public infrastructure.
Cooperative Structure for Fishermen Approved
The Cabinet has approved the development of a cooperative structure from the district level to the state level to organise the fishing community.
The structure will include district or district-group level fishermen’s cooperative unions, divisional level fishermen’s cooperative unions and a state-level fishermen’s cooperative federation.
The objective is to organise fishermen from backward and deprived sections and connect them with a stronger cooperative system.
District Employment Offices Renamed
The Cabinet has approved the renaming of Avar Pradeshiya Niyojanalaya as District Employment Offices to make employment and career guidance services more effective.
These offices provide local youth with employment support, career counselling and guidance. They also organise job fairs, coordinate with private companies and industries, and offer employment-related counselling.
The change has been linked to the ‘Sabka Samman-Jeevan Aasan’ programme under Saat Nishchay-3.
Rs 349.60 Crore Approved for 46,000 Tube Wells
The Cabinet has also approved funds for the Chief Minister Private Tube Well Scheme under the ‘Har Khet Tak Sinchai Ka Pani’ programme.
Apart from Rs 266 crore already approved for the installation of 35,000 tube wells, Rs 83.60 crore has been sanctioned for 11,000 new tube wells in the financial year 2026-27. This takes the total approved amount for 46,000 tube wells to Rs 349.60 crore.
New Cooperative Sugar Mills Planned in Madhubani and Darbhanga
Under Saat Nishchay-3, the government plans to establish new cooperative sugar mills on the land of closed sugar mills at Sakri in Madhubani and Raiyam in Darbhanga.
The Cabinet has approved the formation of primary sugar mill cooperative societies involving sugarcane growers from the notified reserved areas and farmers committed to sugarcane production for the two proposed mills.
Storage Capacity to Increase by 48,200 Metric Tonnes
The Cabinet has approved the creation of 48,200 metric tonnes of additional storage capacity in the financial year 2026-27.
Warehouses with capacities of 200, 500 and 1,000 metric tonnes will be constructed. Committees will receive 50 per cent assistance as subsidy and 50 per cent as working capital.
A total of Rs 34 crore, 95 lakh and 27 thousand has been approved for the scheme.
Advertising Provision for Social Media Influencers
The Bihar Social Media and Other Online Media (Amendment) Rules, 2026 have been amended to make the publicity of public welfare schemes and programmes more effective.
Under the revised rules, social media influencers can be given advertisements. The amendment also provides for necessary clarification in case of ambiguity in the rules. Payments will also be made on the basis of views received on social media platforms.
Rs 39.26 Crore for Canal Reconstruction
Under the ‘Har Khet Tak Sinchai Ka Pani’ programme, Rs 3.45 crore has been approved for the reconstruction of the Jankinagar Branch Canal and its associated canal systems in the Narpatganj Irrigation Division of the Saharsa region.
An additional Rs 35.81 crore has been sanctioned for the restoration of canal systems, including Katihar Distributary, Phulpur Sub-Distributary, Hasanpur Sub-Distributary, Baijnathpur Sub-Distributary and Somapur Sub-Distributary.
Rs 63.92 Crore Approved for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Sector
Under the National Gokul Mission, the Cabinet has approved Rs 63 crore, 92 lakh and 95 thousand under the Saat Nishchay-3 scheme to strengthen the cattle breed improvement programme in the state.
The government expects the initiative to strengthen the animal husbandry and dairy sectors in Bihar.
