Patna: Bihar Director General of Police Vinay Kumar has taken voluntary retirement from the Indian Police Service ahead of his scheduled retirement in December and has been appointed as the state’s Chief Information Commissioner (CIC).
According to a notification issued by the Bihar Home Department late Saturday night, Kumar, a 1991-batch IPS officer, had recently gone on leave and applied for voluntary retirement on September 25. The state government accepted his application.
The government granted him voluntary retirement by relaxing the rule requiring a three-month notice. The approval was given with immediate effect.
Vinay Kumar Appointed Chief Information Commissioner
In a separate notification issued by the General Administration Department, Vinay Kumar was appointed Chief Information Commissioner of Bihar from the date he assumes charge. The appointment was made under the provisions of the Right to Information Act, 2005.
With the notification, Kumar’s appointment to the post of State Chief Information Commissioner has been formally notified. He will head the Bihar State Information Commission in his new role.
Key Role in RTI Matters
As Chief Information Commissioner, Vinay Kumar will oversee the functioning of the Bihar State Information Commission and matters related to the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
The commission deals with appeals and complaints related to access to information from public authorities. The Chief Information Commissioner plays an important role in hearing and disposing of cases pending before the commission.
