Bihar News : With the water level of the Ganga rising and the possibility of worsening flood conditions in Bihar, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has issued comprehensive directions to ensure that relief and rescue operations remain effective. He has directed the administration to ensure that immediate assistance reaches people in flood-affected areas.
Under the Chief Minister’s instructions, the ministers and principal secretaries in charge of 13 districts, including Buxar, Bhojpur, Patna, Saran, Vaishali, Begusarai, Samastipur, Lakhisarai, Khagaria, Munger, Bhagalpur and Katihar, will immediately visit their respective districts.
They will camp in the affected areas and continuously monitor relief and rescue operations. The objective is to ensure that assistance reaches people in need without delay.
Patna Administration Put on 24×7 Alert
In view of the rapidly rising water level of the Ganga at the ghats of the state capital, the Chief Minister has directed the Patna Municipal Corporation, Patna district administration and Water Resources Department to remain on 24×7 alert.
Special monitoring has been ordered in areas around the urban safety embankment. The Chief Minister said the state government is continuously monitoring the flood situation across Bihar.
10.26 Lakh People Affected in 11 Districts
The Disaster Management Department is also fully prepared to deal with the possible flood situation. According to the department, around 10.26 lakh (10,25,745) people have been affected across 50 blocks and 201 panchayats in 11 districts — Patna, Bhojpur, Saran, Vaishali, Bhagalpur, Begusarai, Buxar, Samastipur, Munger, Katihar and Arwal.
The administration has stepped up relief and rescue operations across the affected areas. To provide accessible healthcare and safe transportation, 50 medical camps, 19 boat ambulances and 36 veterinary camps are currently operating.
A total of 858 boats are being used to facilitate the evacuation and movement of displaced and affected people. So far, around 12,314 polythene sheets and 2,228 dry ration packets have been distributed among affected families.
38 Community Kitchens Serving Flood-Affected People
To provide fresh and hygienic food to flood-affected residents, 38 community kitchens are operating across different districts. So far, around 1.21 lakh (1,20,877) people have been provided meals through these kitchens.
In addition, one relief camp is operating in Vaishali district. Around 326 flood-affected people are being provided accommodation, food and medical facilities at the camp.
NDRF and SDRF Teams Deployed
To deal with potential threats and carry out rapid relief and rescue operations, seven NDRF teams and 27 SDRF teams have been deployed in different affected districts across the state.
According to information received from the Central Water Commission, the Ganga is flowing above its previous highest flood level (HFL) at Gandhi Ghat and Pandarak in Patna. The Gandak, Kosi, Burhi Gandak, Punpun and Ghaghra rivers are also flowing above the danger mark at various locations.
The discharge of the Gandak River at Valmikinagar Barrage was recorded at 1.26 lakh cusecs, while the Kosi at Birpur Barrage recorded 1.77 lakh cusecs. The discharge of the Son River at Indrapuri Barrage was recorded at 3.48 lakh cusecs.
The Bihar Weather Service Centre has forecast light to moderate rainfall at several places and heavy rainfall at some locations over the next two days. In view of the forecast, the Disaster Management Department is maintaining continuous and close monitoring of the situation.
