New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs from Jharkhand on Wednesday staged a protest at Makar Dwar in Parliament, accusing the Congress of adopting a “double standard” on issues concerning students and youth. The party also reiterated its demand for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into alleged irregularities and paper leaks in recruitment examinations conducted in Jharkhand over the past six years.
Addressing the protest, BJP’s Jharkhand unit president and Rajya Sabha MP Aditya Sahu alleged that while the Congress has been vocal on students’ issues in Delhi, it has remained silent on recruitment examination controversies in Jharkhand, including the JPSC, JSSC CGL, and excise constable recruitment examinations.
Sahu also referred to the deaths of 19 candidates during the physical test for the excise constable recruitment, alleging that Congress leaders had not raised the issue. He urged the Jharkhand government to provide compensation of ₹1 crore each to the families of the deceased candidates.
The BJP leader called on Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi to visit Jharkhand and address the concerns of students and job aspirants. He questioned why the Congress was demanding investigations in Delhi while remaining “silent” over alleged recruitment irregularities in a state where it supports the ruling coalition.
Reiterating the party’s stand, Sahu demanded a CBI investigation into all alleged recruitment examination irregularities and paper leak cases during the Hemant Soren-led government’s tenure. He alleged that the state government’s reliance on CID investigations was an attempt to shield those responsible and claimed that previous CID probes, including in the alleged liquor scam, had failed to ensure accountability.
Sahu further said that if the Congress was serious about protecting the interests of students and youth, it should withdraw its support from the Hemant Soren-led government and seek the Chief Minister’s resignation.
During the demonstration, BJP MPs raised slogans demanding accountability from the Jharkhand government and calling for a CBI investigation into the alleged recruitment examination irregularities.
Among those present at the protest were BJP MPs Nishikant Dubey, B.D. Ram, Vidyut Varan Mahato, Dr. Pradeep Verma, Kalicharan Singh, Dhullu Mahato, and Manish Jaiswal.
The Congress and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) had not responded to the BJP’s allegations at the time of publication.
